Reconstructed Roman temple complex on the Metzenberg with views across the valley.
Above the village of Tawern, a reconstructed Gallo-Roman temple precinct sits on the Metzenberg: once, travellers on the long-distance road from Metz to Trier greeted the messenger of the gods Mercury here before embarking on the final leg to the metropolis.
The short ascent from the village is rewarding in two respects — for the complex itself and the view over the valley. Combined with Villa Borg and Igeler Säule, this creates a small Roman route away from Trier's classic attractions.
