The highest Roman funerary pillar north of the Alps — UNESCO World Heritage site in the neighbouring village.
In the heart of Igel, just a few minutes from our apartments near Trier, stands a 23-metre-high Roman tomb from the 3rd century — the best-preserved of its kind north of the Alps and part of Trier's UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The reliefs tell the story of the everyday life of the Secundinier cloth merchant family, who had the monument erected — scenes of daily life, commercial transactions, mythology. Goethe himself was impressed. Ideal as a stop-off on a cycling tour towards Luxembourg or Wasserbillig.
