The panoramic spot: a 40-metre-high column on Markusberg with the finest views over Trier.
High above the Moselle bank, the Mariensäule stands on the Markusberg, erected in 1866 and visible from far and wide. At its feet lies the city's best free viewpoint: all of Trier, the Moselle valley and the vineyards in a single glance.
The climb from the Römerbrücke takes a good half hour on foot through the forest — at the top, the view is your reward, in the evening the glittering lights of the city. If you prefer it more comfortably, you can drive by car almost to the summit.
