Constantine Basilica

The largest surviving single room from antiquity — throne hall of Emperor Constantine, now a church.

The Konstantin Basilica was the throne room of the Roman Emperor — a space 67 metres long and 33 metres high, entirely without supports. No other single room from antiquity has survived in this size; the sheer scale was meant to inspire awe in visitors then as much as today.

Today the Basilica serves as an evangelical church and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Directly adjacent is the Kurfürstliche Palais with its Rococo façade — the palace garden behind it is the living room of Trier residents in summer and the finest path to the Kaiserthermen and Amphitheatre.
