Germany's oldest bridge — traffic still rolls across Roman pillars dating from the 2nd century.
Its basalt pillars have stood in the Moselle since the 2nd century: the Roman Bridge is the oldest bridge in Germany — and is still used for everyday traffic today. Roman engineering that has withstood almost 1,900 years of flooding, wars and traffic, UNESCO World Heritage status included.
The bridge looks most beautiful from the Moselle riverbank, when the arches are reflected in the water — especially during the blue hour. Anyone cycling along the Mosel cycle path rolls right past it.
